A white line that looks sharp at noon can disappear after dark. Reflective bead striping adds tiny glass spheres to fresh marking material so headlights bounce back toward the driver, making lines, arrows, and crossings visible in the evening and in wet conditions.

How reflective beads work

The beads are small glass or similar spheres. When they are dropped into wet paint or molten thermoplastic, half of each sphere stays exposed. Light from a headlight enters the sphere and is returned toward its source, which is why a beaded line seems to glow.

The effect depends on beads being embedded at the right moment and in the right amount. Too early and they sink, too late and they do not stick. Timing and dispensing equipment make the difference between a line that shines and one that just has sand on it.

Where nighttime visibility matters most

Not every stall line needs beads. They make the most difference on stop bars, crosswalks, directional arrows, entrance and exit lanes, and curved drive aisles where drivers need to read the path in low light.

Properties with evening traffic, such as restaurants, medical offices with late hours, churches with evening services, and apartment communities, gain the most. Lots with poor lighting benefit even more, since the line itself becomes the guide.

Wear, maintenance, and realistic expectations

Beads gradually wear off as the surface under them is scuffed. Reflectivity will fade before the paint itself disappears, which is why some properties plan a refresh on a regular schedule instead of waiting for visible wear.

We do not promise a specific lifespan since traffic volume, surface, sun, and cleaning all affect it. We can explain which locations in your lot are likely to need attention first so you can plan with fewer surprises.

How the work typically goes

  1. Identify which markings must be visible at night and in rain.
  2. Select the right marking material for each location, whether paint or thermoplastic.
  3. Apply the base marking and drop beads while the material is still wet or molten.
  4. Allow the line to set and keep traffic away until it is ready to carry vehicles.
  5. Return in the evening if you want to see the result under real lighting conditions.
