Restriping repaints lines that have faded, chipped, or worn through on pavement that already has a layout. If your parking space lines are hard to see, drivers park crooked, and your lot looks tired, parking lot restriping renews the lines so every stall reads clearly again.
Recognizing when lines are due for renewal
Faded lines are obvious, but a few other signs show up first. Stalls look uneven because drivers have started guessing. Accessible symbols turn pale. Stop bars at exits disappear where tires cross them. Tenants begin to ask about it.
Sun, heavy rain, tire traffic, and sealcoating all play a part. A lot in full sun can fade sooner than one shaded by trees, and busy entrances wear out well before the back rows. Restriping on a schedule is more manageable than reacting to complaints.
Preserving or correcting the existing layout
In most restriping jobs the goal is to follow the old lines exactly. Crews locate the original pattern, check it against stall width and angle, and repaint with fresh paint. Faint remnants are enough to guide the layout when the old lines are not completely gone.
Sometimes the old layout was wrong. Stalls may be too narrow, accessible spaces missing aisles, or aisles too tight for vehicles to turn. That is the time to talk about reconfiguration, which our parking space reconfiguration page describes in more detail.
Surface condition and preparation
Paint needs a sound, clean surface. Peeling old paint, oil stains, and moss at the edges of the lot are dealt with before new paint goes on, and in some cases heavy old buildup is better ground off than painted over.
If a lot is about to be sealed or resurfaced, the order of work matters. Restriping after sealcoating is common, and we can help you plan so the new paint goes on a surface ready to hold it.
How the work typically goes
- Review the current condition of lines, symbols, and curbs and decide what must be refreshed.
- Locate original layout points so new lines follow the established pattern.
- Clean the lot and treat peeling paint, stains, and edge growth that would interfere with adhesion.
- Repaint stalls, aisles, symbols, arrows, and curbs in the agreed colors.
- Review the completed work with you, including areas that may need a second look later.
